It is situated along Highway 1, thirteen kilometers from Sackville (HRM) and twenty kilometers from the town of Windsor, heading towards the Annapolis Valley. The school shares in the governing of the political region of the East Hants Municipality and is directly governed by the Chignecto Central School Board, geographically located in the Nova Family of Schools. Uniacke District School is a Primary to Grade 9 School with a population of 440 students and 28 full time teaching assignments.

Uniacke District School was constructed in 1959. Over the years, UDS has had two expansions, the first being in 1972 and the latest and largest in 1981. The expansion in 1981 brought students together for grades primary to grade ten. This expansion brought Grade 7-10 students back to the community after being transported to Windsor Regional High School. Today, the school continues to house students from primary to grade nine. The students are then bussed to high school (grades ten, eleven and twelve) to attend Avon View High School in the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board.

Uniacke District School’s physical plant consists of 28 classrooms, a library, two music rooms, one cafeteria/small gymnasium, a large gymnasium, a wood-shop, drafting lab, a family studies lab, a computer lab and supporting offices for staff. Over the years, playgrounds, a soccer field, softball field, and an outdoor basketball court have been developed for the enjoyment of the school and community in their play and recreational pursuits.
